30 Years – 3 Coaches – 6 Super Bowls

I didn’t know how to start this… so many things are running through my mind.

I really didn’t think that last years’ Super Bowl could ever be topped, but it was. I yelled so loud at the end of the game that I made my aunt’s cats jump four feet in the air.

Santonio Holmes’ catch was ridiculous. It will be remembered for a long time.

James Harrison’s 100 yard interception return for a TD was incredible.

Pittsburgh is now 6 of 7 in Super Bowls and now the only franchise with 6 Super Bowl wins.

I think I can argue that this has become as much of a dynasty as New England was in the beginning of the decade.

We are in good shape for next year. Re-sign S Anthony Smith, WR Nate Washington, and CB Bryan McFadden and with a couple of key moves, look for Steelers to be in contention for the Lombardi trophy in 2010!

I don’t know what more to say, just very very excited.

Countdown To The Super Bowl

About 5 hours until the Super Bowl. Starting to get anxious. Can we start early?

Soon our house will look like that Best Buy commerical… “there were chips, even little weenies”

Last time the Steelers were in the big game was 2005. I have the same jersey, hat, Terrible Towel… I’m ready to go!

We Are A Super Couple…

Lots of couples have their perks. Brad and Jenn adopt/have kids like children are going out of style. Ryan and Rachel had The Notebook. Tom and Katie have alien spaceships. Mari and I have our birthday wishes.

November 4th is Mari’s birthday. I can’t totally recall everything that happened that day… but something like the most historic presidential election of all time?

January 18th is my birthday. I was born in Pittsburgh, so it was a great gift to see the Steelers advance to the Super Bowl.

I can’t wait to see what we get next year…

Pittsburgh’s Going To The Super Bowl

The soft chants of “Here we Go… Here we go…Here we go, Steelers, here we go… Pittsburgh’s going to the Super Bowl” are playing in my head as I write this. I am really excited to see the Steelers make it. Heck, in early August, many ‘experts’ didn’t have Pittsburgh making it out of the first round of playoffs. Some people even though Cleveland would win the division (could you be any further off?). Dallas and New England were the overwhelming favorites to win the Super Bowl… at least they made it to the playoffs.

As many of you know, I am currently living in a suburb of Baltimore and it was difficult to watch the Steelers/Ravens game with my Ravens fan uncle. I honestly felt bad when they lost. I got over it though.

I have talked Mari into becoming a Steelers fan. Maybe the Red Sox are next?

Few things I heard when I was back in da Burgh over the holidays.

70% of the Earth is covered with oceans. The other 30% is covered by Troy Polamalu.

Four football fans are standing on a cliff. One is a Steeler fan, one a Patriots fan, one a Browns fan, and one a Cowboys fan. They were trying to prove how loyal they were to their team. The Patriots fan said “This is for my team!” and jumped off the cliff and died. The Cowboys fan did the same, and he also died. The Steelers fan took a deep breath and screamed, “This is for the Steelers!” And he pushed the Browns fan off the cliff.

It should be a good game (not really) and I have faith the Steelers will end up on top.

Notes From A Steeler Fan

What a great game this evening! The Steelers did exactly what they needed to in order to win. They caused turnovers, played physical along the D-line, and were smart on offense. I can’t wait til next weekend… Baltimore vs Pittsburgh. I have to admit, living here in Baltimore, it’s not easy being a Steeler fan. In fact, it sucks (think Red Sox fan in NYC). Anyway, it’s 2 vs 1 at my relatives’ house where I’m staying with Steelers having the majority.

There are a few things I want to comment about for next week’s game.
1) Ben had a ton of time to throw the ball today. I definitely know that won’t be the case next week. Ravens have an equally tough defense, so Ben needs to continue to be smart with the football.
2) We need to continue to run the ball even when we get 1-2 yards per carry. This will set up our play action which I think will be wide open.
3) We need to continue to dominate the line of scrimmage on defense like we did against the Chargers. Rivers was on his back more than he was standing and Sproals couldn’t get anything going on the run. If we control the line of scrimmage, we’ll win the game.

As always, turnovers play a huge role in determining the winner of the game. Look at the Ravens’ past two games, +7 in the turnover margin with 1 TD return.

Sorta side note: About the 0 on the play clock during the Ravens’ game. Boo-hoo. Officials miss calls. It is  the Titans’ responsibility to stop the Ravens from scoring (or converting for first down to get into FG range). Stop complaining. Ravens won fair and square.

And hopefully lose fair and square to the Steelers next week.
