So Long IPod…

My IPod was stolen last night. Ugh it kinda gives me a sick feeling in my stomach. I’ve never really had anything stolen from me. It was totally my fault… my electronic car locks don’t work on the passenger side. I guess my friend riding with me forgot to lock his door. Regardless, I still feel really crappy.

As much as I feel crappy though, I am humbled by the situation. The story of St. Francis of Assisi comes to my mind. If you’re not familiar with his story, he was nobility in the Umbrian region of Italy around 1200. His father was a rich cloth merchant and much was given to Francis. He was expected to father in his father’s footsteps and he certainly lived an extravagant lifestyle. All that changed one day as Francis prayed in front of the San Damiano cross. After this, Francis devoted his entire life to serving.

You may ask what does this have to do with me? Well Francis literally gave up everything he had and wouldn’t let material goods dictate his happiness. In like manner, I don’t need an Ipod to be happy. I have let my ‘stuff’ take over my life too much lately, and now I am going back to where I should be.

To the person who stole my Ipod: I hope you enjoy it.
