One of the coolest parts of my job at WeatherBug is I get to monitor cameras across the country. I’ll use my meteorology background to send updates to partners on different cameras to use with interesting weather phenomena.
This morning a shelf cloud rolled through Lexington, KY. I’ve heard shelf clouds compared to the space ship from Independence Day because it does look sorta scary, but a shelf cloud is nothing more than a low cloud that is the leading edge of a gust front. There could be some damage due to wind, but it’s typically not too bad.
Either way, check out the image we captured from a WeatherBug camera mounted on the roof of St. John’s Regional Hospital in Lexington.
