Written by I just got back from seeing the movie Defiance and I must tell you, I loved it. It is a true story of four brothers in Belarus during the Holocaust. Defiance follows the Bieliski family as they try to survive being hunted by the Nazis.
This movie is unlike any Holocaust movie I’ve seen. It is not a sad movie like Schindler’s List or a seri-comedy like La Vita È Bella, rather this movie is Saving Private Ryan and Patriot-esque. Lots of fighting, some slower parts, but for the most part very action packed.
What really struck me was how the director is able to show the stress that Jews at that time were under. It is amazing to see the inner struggle in the main characters. It really added to picture.
In what I thought would turn into a Jewish James Bond (Daniel Craig is the main character), the film instead offers a historically accurate (mostly) view of what happened.
