I arrived in Ocean City around 12:30am Saturday morning. I unloaded my bags with Justin Berk, then hit the street to get some content for WeatherBug.

As expected, lots of business were boarded up in preparation for Hurricane Irene. Som people were more creative than others when it came to marking their terrority.

"A" for effort, "F" for grammar

What surprised me however was the lack of people in the city. And by lack, I mean NO people (beside many patrolling cops). I drove around for about an hour and didn’t see a single vacationer or resident.

There has been a mandatory evacuation for Ocean City since 5pm yesterday, yet I still expected to see some hipster that doesn’t want to be told what to do by “the MAHHHNNNN” and old people who “survived Hurricane (insert name here). I didn’t see anyone.

It was very eery; almost like a zombie apocalypse in fancy resort town.

I have a LONG day tomorrow, starting with a phone interview with KVUE in Austin. Wish me luck!

PS – I truly appreciate the friends and family who have checked in on me. I am safe (right now).

So here is my redesigned website. I like it a lot better for two reasons. First, the ‘backend’ of the site (built on wordpress 3.2 using Evolve theme) will allow me to connect to friends a lot easier. For example, I plan on doing some ustream on my site in the very near future. I’ve linked my twitter account to a widget at the bottom of the page so even non-twitter users can see what I’m writing. Secondly and more cosmetically speaking, I just like the design. It’s ‘flashier’ and feels newer… I couldn’t stand the square boxes of the old site.

Like I said, I have some big plans for the future of the site. Ustream is a big desire. I’ll be updating the “Travels” section on each major trip I go on (and even some stories from old trips). I want to create some galleries for my photography and possibly even set up a store front for users to purchase pictures. I’ll be uploading more of my videos and on-air appearances for everyone to see.

If there is a suggestion that you have on how to improve things, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I really want to expand this as much as I can.

I want to give a HUGE thanks to Geoff Fox. He helped me on some of the redesign when I got stuck. When I went to search on older “Geoff Fox” posts on my site, I realized I never wrote about how he helped me get my job at WeatherBug. That’ll be for another post. Thanks again Geoff!

My website decide to take a small break this afternoon for about five hours. If you tried to visit during that time, all you got was a simple Error 500 message (wonder what error 1-499 are?). Anyways, I was really ticked because this was the second time in two weeks this happened. Not only can I not access this site, but I also can’t access the site I’ve been spending every waking moment developing.

I called 1and1, who is my server company, around 3:30pm. The first guy I talked to was less than helpful. He seemed like he had better places to be. Needless to say, that call didn’t help anything.

I called back at 5:45pm and talked to Nadine. She was very helpful and explained exactly what she was going to do to fix the site. She said I’d receive an email within 30 minutes regarding the status of the fix.

32 minutes later…

As we monitor your two websites: jacobwycoff.com and [deleted].com it
is still displaying an Error 500. We already escalated the case few
minutes ago.
We will get back to you once again via email for further update.

The site finally was back up around 8:45pm. It sounds weird, but while the site was done, I didn’t know what to do with myself. This new site is just so consuming that I get in the zone and lose track of time. We are rolling the site out next Wednesday. Until then, I’ll be working out the bugs.
