Apparently this is the part of the site where I’m supposed to tell you all about me. I guess the logical place to start would be from the beginning.
I was born in the mid 80s, right after disco died but before “Saved by the Bell” went on the air. I was raised in rural Ohio by truly the best parents ever.
I am the oldest of four children and the oldest grand kid on both sides of the family. It goes without saying that I was spoiled beyond belief. It didn’t help matters that I was so friggin’ cute (Ya ya, what happened right?)
I always took school seriously, even when I was really young. I am 95 percent sure this due to my high school English teaching mother. I can remember in third grade doing an outline, a rough draft, and a second draft for a one-page paper on squirrels. I think the teacher gave me an A just because she felt bad for me.
School is where I discovered what I wanted to be when I grow grew up. One of the assignments in my fifth grade social studies class was to track hurricanes as they traveled in the Atlantic. The purpose of the assignment was to teach us about latitude and longitude. For me, it meant watching The Weather Channel all day, waiting on the new hurricane updates to come out. I still have some of my old maps too.
I think it was checkmate for me after that, and “Twister” solidified that feeling. Ask any meteorologist under the age of 25 if “Twister” played any role in deciding their profession, and they’d be lying if they said no. Come on… who wouldn’t want to do that? Chasing storms all day, dodging flying cows and debris.
Yea you’re right. I’m crazy. But hey, that’s me.
After fifth grade, I started buying up all the tornado things I could find. For my tenth birthday, I got an eight video set of “Twisters- Nature’s Fury!” and Storm Chaserby Warren Faidley. There was no turning back from there. Soon my love for tornadoes and hurricanes blossomed into an overall love for weather. I was setting up my own backyard weather stations, reading EVERYTHING I could get my hands on, and writing letters to NOAA and NWS for information.
So fast forward a couple of years… now I’m at Western Connecticut State University studying Operational and Theoretical Meteorology. I had the chance to go wherever I wanted (I did pretty well on the ACT) but I knew West Conn was the place for me. It really has turned into my home away from home.
I have created many opportunities for myself because of my desire to do big things. Over the summer I had an internship in the Baltimore/Washington area and in the fall of 2008 interned at WTNH in New Haven (View my Resume Tape Here).
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Sigma Chi. I wouldn’t be in the position I am today without the fraternity. The brothers of Sigma Chi were my first friends at West Conn. Within the organization, I have cultivated leadership skills I never knew I had and got to travel all around this great nation of ours. I will always be in debt to Sigma Chi for what it has given me. In Hoc Signo Vinces…
I now work for WeatherBug in the Media department. I truly love my position. I get to travel, working with meteorologist, and forecast every once in a while. Growing up I always imagined being a TV meteorologist, however sometimes life throws you a curve ball. Thankfully for me, I was a great off-speed hitter
So now that you know the abbreviated story of me… I hope you enjoy daily finding out what it’s like Being Me.
