Apparently I’m 23 today, although I don’t wish to claim that. The extent of my birthday plans will be sitting on my ass in Baltimore and watching the Steelers win. Woo-hoo.

I think it’s funny how Facebook is the new(ish) birthday card.

Thank you for all the birthday wishes everyone.

Defiance

I just got back from seeing the movie Defiance and I must tell you, I loved it. It is a true story of four brothers in Belarus during the Holocaust. Defiance follows the Bieliski family as they try to survive being hunted by the Nazis.

This movie is unlike any Holocaust movie I’ve seen. It is not a sad movie like Schindler’s List or a seri-comedy like La Vita È Bella, rather this movie is Saving Private Ryan and Patriot-esque. Lots of fighting, some slower parts, but for the most part very action packed.

What really struck me was how the director is able to show the stress that Jews at that time were under. It is amazing to see the inner struggle in the main characters. It really added to picture.

In what I thought would turn into a Jewish James Bond (Daniel Craig is the main character), the film instead offers a historically accurate (mostly) view of what happened.

I definitely recommend it. Let me know what you think!

Now You’ll Pay Attention

US Airways Flight 1549 crashed into the Hudson River today shortly after takeoff. The pilot radioed to air traffic control that the plane experienced a ‘double bird strike’, meaning both engines were disabled due to birds flying into them. Weather definitely didn’t play a role. As described on NBC, once the bird strikes the propellers, it turns them into spinning shrapnel and destroys the engine.

It’s fairly safe to say that 95% of you reading this have flown… it’s also safe to say that 85% of you ignored the safety instructions before takeoff. Now you’ll pay attention.

The pilot deserves enormous praise for the water landing. He saved 155 lives by knowing exactly what to do, then executing.

Youngest Kid Ever To Televise Live From Inauguration

Just came across my computer that a ten-year old kid is scheduled to attended many of the inauguration ceremonies for WKYC, the NBC affiliate in Cleveland. The youngster wants a one-on-one interview with then President Obama, but nothing has been set in stone as of yet.

I am genuinely excited for this third-grader. Anyway, enough of that, I have to find a job of my own.
